Foods I & II

This course is an introduction to the basics of nutrition and food preparation. The focus of this course is centered on the cooking and baking. The general goal of this course is to enhance student awareness to the different types of cooking and baking and preparation of those foods. The overall goal for all levels of this course is to enhance student knowledge of food choices and  expanding their ideas of cooking and baking.

Parent & Child Development I& II

This course will help student build a positive understanding of children’s growth and development and a solid foundation of parenting skills. Child Development students learn theories of development and growth as well as techniques to use when working with children through class activities, presentations, discussion, videos, guest speakers and field trips. The overall goal for this course is to gain a better understanding of what parenting and child development involve.

Health

This course will allow the student to comprehend concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention; demonstrate the ability to access valid health information and health-promoting products and services; demonstrate the ability to practice health-enhancing behaviors and reduce health-related risks; analyze the influence of culture, media, technology, and other factors on health; demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health; and demonstrate the ability to advocate for personal, family, and community health.

English 10

This course will allow the student to learn about literature and composition covering English and American literature from the Elizabethan to modern eras and correlates with World History II as appropriate. Literature is evaluated through its historical and religious/philosophical roots, emphasizing the Truth and Beauty continuum. Students will also write formal analyses of literary works and their authors. Vocabulary, writing style, and note taking skills are an integral part of the course.

Speech I

This  course will allow students the opportunities to gain poise, develop personal interests, and share responsibilities for group projects. Students will have opportunities to acquire listening skills, to learn fundamentals of oral presentation, to increase their vocabularies through word study and oral presentations, to increase their vocabularies to word studies as it relates to speech, to prepare and present various types of speeches, to participate in group discussions, to experience platform reading and speaking, to receive an introduction to debate, to meet some of the challenges of performing through mass media, and to develop interpersonal communications skills and poise.
